Mumbai, April 4: The Indian film industry is grieving the loss of the iconic actor, director, and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who passed away at the age of 87. Known fondly as "Bharat Kumar" for his portrayal of patriotic roles, Kumar breathed his last at 4:03 am on April 4, 2025, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
His son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that the last rites will be held tomorrow at 11 am at Pawan Hans, near Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle.
In a statement to the media, Kunal expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his heartfelt tweet, adding, "I thank PM Narendra Modi for his tweet... Whether it’s Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, or Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, these films remain relevant even today. The issues raised in them are still pertinent, whether in Parliament or in society."
Manoj Kumar’s cousin, Manish R Goswami, remembered him as "a true countryman, a true Indian," highlighting that his films were centered around the spirit of the nation.
