Lime plaster falls off roof in sanctum sanctorum of Puri Jagannath temple

Puri, Aug 3: A large chunk of lime plaster has fallen from the roof in sanctum sanctorum of Puri Jagannath temple in Odisha. Amid reports of falling of stone/construction material from the roof of Srimandir's 'garbha gruha' (sanctum sanctorum), Ajay Kumar Jena, Administrator (development) of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Wednesday clarified that a large chunk of lime plaster fell from the roof behind Lord Balabhadra. The incident has been informed to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), said Jena. According to reports, a piece of lime plaster weighing around 1.5 kg was found near Lord Balabhadra on Tuesday and it was deposited in the warehouse of the temple. Notably, an ASI team had inspected the the cracks and fractures on the walls and the sanctum sanctorum of the Srimandir during the Rath Yatra last month.
