Dhenkanal, April 4: A hunting expedition turned into tragedy after a man accidentally shot and killed his friend. The incident took place near a cashew forest at Kadalipal village under Rasol police limits in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district late Thursday night.
According to the report, five friends Prashant Nayak, Kalia Nayak, Naresh Swain, Khandua Dehury and Santosh Nayak of Kottam village had gone to nearby cashew forest for hunting when the mishap occurred. However, the trip turned deadly when Prashant Nayak mistook his friend Kalia Nayak for a wild animal and opened fire. Following that, Kalia succumbed on the spot.
Panicked, the group of friends concealed the body in the cashew forest and hurried back to the village without informing anyone about the incident. Later, Kalia’s wife, Jhili Nayak, received the news of his death and quickly alerted the villagers.
Being informed, Rashol police reached the spot, seized the body and sent for autopsy.
Police have also detained Prashant and started investigation into the incident.
