Berhampur, Dec 26: In a tragic, the bodies of a married couple were found hanging from a tree in Sadar locality of Odisha’s Berhampur on Thursday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Sahu, son of Simanchal Sahu from Radhadeipur village and Sumitra Sahu, wife of Santosh Sahu from Patapur village. Both villages fall under the jurisdiction of Patapur police station.
According to police, the couple had been in a romantic relationship despite being married to others and having three children each. They had been reported missing since December 19 and their families had filed missing complaints at Patapur police station.
Police suspect the possibility of an honor killing, given the prevalence of such incidents in the region. Investigators believe the families of the couple may have been involved in their deaths.
However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of suicide and are probing the incident further to determine whether it was a pre-planned murder or a case of suicide.
