Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: A second-year MBBS student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar tragically ended his life, police said on Thursday.
Ratnesh Kumar Mishra, a 21-year-old from Dibrugarh, Assam, was found hanging in his hostel room on Wednesday. Police discovered a note at the scene, indicating that no one else was responsible for his death.
Initial investigations suggest that financial difficulties within his family may have contributed to his tragic decision. Mishra had reportedly sent a voice message to his younger brother, urging him to pursue a career in medicine while staying in Assam and requesting his father not to sell their land.
Mishra had returned to the Bhubaneswar campus after a 10-day vacation with his father. He was scheduled to visit Puri with his father on Wednesday, but his father was unable to reach him by phone later in the day. After several unanswered calls, the father rushed to the hostel and found the door locked from inside.
With the help of other students, the father forced entry and discovered Mishra's body. He was immediately transported to the hospital's Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Director Ashutosh Biswas visited the hostel room later that day. Mishra's second-year exams were scheduled to begin on Thursday.
