Kohima, Ap 19: Voting commenced for the Nagaland Lok Sabha seat on Friday morning under stringent security measures, as confirmed by election officials. A diverse array of voters, including men, women, and those casting their ballots for the first time, formed queues outside polling stations well before the 7 a.m. commencement of voting throughout the state.

With a total of 2,342 polling stations being actively managed by over 11,000 polling personnel, the voting process is slated to run smoothly until 4 p.m., with no breaks. The electoral destiny of three candidates – opposition Congress nominee S Supongmeren Jamir, ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate Chumben Murry, and Independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lotha – rests in the hands of over 13.25 lakh eligible voters, among whom 6.64 lakh are women.

Despite the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) advocating for abstention from voting in the six Eastern Nagaland districts – Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Shamator, and Noklak – due to their demand for a separate state, the Election Commission has proceeded with polling arrangements, dispatching polling teams for the 738 polling stations in these districts.
