Bhubaneswar, October 14: The Odisha government is considering amending the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) to streamline land purchase and sale processes,  said Suresh Pujari, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, here on Monday.

Pujari emphasized that there is a need to make land transactions more accessible, particularly during emergencies such as medical treatments or educational expenses.

He said "RERA currently restricts landowners from selling their land under urgent requirements like a daughter's marriage or medical needs.  Therefore, the Revenue Department will consult with the Urban Development Department to identify necessary amendments,".

Pujari acknowledged the complaints about the challenges faced by people during the land registration process and highlighted the previous outsourcing of the e-registration system.

He noted that low wages paid by the outsourcing agency have led some employees to engage in unethical practices. Pujari warned that the government would take strict action against middlemen and brokers, barring them from office premises if caught exploiting citizens.
