Kuwait City, December 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuwait to a ceremonial welcome, marking a historic two-day visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years. He was warmly received by Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Interior, alongside Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and other dignitaries.
Expressing optimism, PM Modi remarked on X (formerly Twitter): "Landed in Kuwait to a warm welcome. This is the first visit by an Indian PM in 43 years, and it will undoubtedly strengthen the India-Kuwait friendship across various sectors. I look forward to the programs scheduled for later today and tomorrow."
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal hailed the visit as a turning point, calling it "a new chapter in the making."
During the visit, PM Modi will be the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup, hosted by the Emir of Kuwait. Additionally, he is set to engage with the Indian diaspora at the "Hala Modi" community event at Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Sports Complex.
In a departure statement, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of his interactions with Kuwait's Amir, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister. He expressed hope for forging a futuristic partnership roadmap that would benefit both nations and the broader region.
PM Modi also highlighted the vital role of the Indian diaspora in fostering the India-Kuwait friendship, noting their immense contributions to the Gulf nation.
