Balasore, Feb 26: In a bid to evade arrest for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in Odisha's Balasore district, a man reportedly attempted to take his own life by consuming poison upon seeing the police.
The accused, Biswaranjan Puhan, was apprehended from Dhalasahi under Basudevpur police limits in Bhadrak district.
As per reports, Biswaranjan had been on the run after allegedly murdering his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend Jyotirmayee Rana at her home in Lingapada village in Soro on February 24.
Biswaranjan slit Jyotirmayee’s throat while she was alone at home. After committing the crime, he kept changing locations to evade arrest. However, when he saw the police closing in on him today, he panicked and consumed poison in an attempt to escape legal consequences.
Thereafter, police rescued him and rushed him to Basudevpur Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as his health condition deteriorated.
Notably, Jyotirmayee had previously filed a police complaint against Biswaranjan, alleging that he had been threatening her over the phone.
The two had been in a long-term relationship but reportedly broke up due to his alcohol addiction.
