Balasore, Mar 24: In a midnight heist, miscreants allegedly robbed valuables worth over Rs 20 lakh after holding a family hostage and assaulting a member in Soro town of Odisha's Balasore district last night.
According to the family, six miscreants came on bicycles and barged into the house of one Anand Behera in Banagadhia village under Simulia police limits in Soro by breaking the window.
Thereafter, they handcuffed the family members and went on with their robbery bid. When Anand's son Ratikant tried to resist their loot attempt, they attacked him with a knife and rod.
Later, the miscreants looted valuables and gold ornaments worth over Rs 12 lakh and Rs 8.4 lakh cash before fleeing the scene.
Ratikant sustained grievous injuries in the attack and was initially admitted to the nearest hospital in Simulia for treatment. However, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his health condition deteriorated.
Following the incident, Anand Behera lodged a complaint with Simulia police.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and an investigation has been launched into the matter. Efforts are on to trace and nab the culprits involved, said the police.
