Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday informed that students’ union elections in colleges and universities will be held in the coming academic year.
The announcement made by the Chief Minister assumes significance as students’ union elections have not taken place in the state in the past six years. Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government did not hold elections in colleges and universities since 2018 citing different reasons.
Addressing the 49th state conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Majhi said the state government is actively taking steps for holding elections in the next academic year.
The Chief Minister also criticised the previous BJD government for not conducting the students’ union elections for several years.
