Cuttack, Dec 4: In a bizarre incident, a woman and her two-month girl reportedly succumbed to burn injuries after she set herself on fire, taking the newborn on her lap.
The incident took place in Odisha’s Cuttack City under the Jagatpur Police limit in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased mother has been identified as Suchismita Mohanty.
According to reports, Suchismita, aggrieved over domestic feud, allegedly set herself and her two-month-old infant on fire pouring kerosene.
Both were rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital Cuttack soon in critical conditions, for resuscitation. The kid succumbed to the burn injuries a few hours to the incident while the mother died in a Private Hospital, according to the Jagatpur Police.
The two bodies were sent for postmortem whereas the deceased woman’s husband was detained on the basis of a complaint lodged in this connection, said police.
