Jammu, July 4: Over one lakh devotees have so far performed the annual Amarnath Yatra 2024 since it started on June 29, breaking all previous records. This was informed by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which manages the affairs of the Yatra.
Meanwhile, another batch of 5,696 pilgrims left for Kashmir on Thursday.
Today, another group of 5696 Yatris departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in two escorted convoys. The first convoy, consisting of 2028 Yatris in 97 vehicles, departed at 3:13 a.m. for the north Kashmir Baltal base camp. The second convoy, with 3668 Yatris in 122 vehicles, left at 3:40 a.m. for the south Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp.
Last year, around 50,000 pilgrims performed the yatra in first five days.
According to the Meteorological department, cloudy weather is expected along both Yatra routes today, with a chance of light rain or thunder during the day.
Notably, Yatris take either the 48 km long traditional Pahalgam cave shrine route or the shorter 14 km long Baltal route to perform the Yatra. Those using the Pahalgam route take four days to reach the cave shrine, while those taking the Baltal route return to the base camp the same day after having ‘darshan’ inside the cave shrine.
