Ganjam, March 21: Casting a hefty amount of government funds into river, a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) has allegedly squandered away at least Rs 43L from the official accounts.
The Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested PEO Radhadeipur GP under the Sanakhemundi Block limits identified as Khetramohan Nayak for spending the ill-got amount in cricket betting.
According to officials, Nayak misused his official position and forged the Sarapanch’s signature to withdraw funds worth Rs 43,01,640 through cheques from government accounts maintained in the Axis & Canara Banks, Digapahandi Branch.
The misappropriated funds were drawn from CFC, SFC, PDS, and OAP accounts of the Gram Panchayat, revealed the vigilance investigation.
Nayak was arrested on the charges of embezzlement of government funds under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018) and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on Friday.
