Tripura, Ap 19: Polling for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat and the Ramnagar assembly segment, where by-polls are being held, commenced on Friday morning under strict security arrangements.

According to election officials, 14.63 lakh voters, including 7.34 lakh women, will determine the fate of nine candidates vying for the politically significant parliamentary seat. The primary contest is anticipated between former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP candidate Biplab Kumar Deb, and state Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, representing the INDIA bloc.

Simultaneously, voting began for the by-election to the Ramnagar Assembly seat, left vacant following the passing of sitting BJP MLA Surajit Datta on December 28 last year. In the Ramnagar Assembly by-poll, two candidates, one each from the BJP and the CPI-M, are contesting.

With over 20,000 polling personnel deployed, voting will take place across 1,682 polling stations in the Tripura West Parliamentary constituency. The voting process will continue uninterrupted until 5 p.m.
