Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: The Odisha government is taking significant steps to develop the Amarda Airstrip under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme to enhance regional connectivity. A budget of Rs 45 crore has been allocated for the airstrip's development, aiming to revive underutilized airstrips across India.
The airstrip, which is owned by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has received the necessary working permission from the Ministry of Defence for development. DRDO has also officially handed over the land to the state government to facilitate further progress.
As part of the project, the Odisha government has completed the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey at the site and is in the process of acquiring additional land to expand the airstrip for 3C-IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) operations. This initiative is expected to improve air connectivity and promote regional air travel in the state, providing a boost to local transport and tourism.
The development of the Amarda Airstrip is a crucial step in enhancing air travel infrastructure in Odisha and supporting the UDAN scheme's goal of increasing connectivity to underserved regions.
