Malkangiri, Feb 25: Raising serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students, a Class-10 girl from a government-run residential school in Odisha’s Malkangiri district gave birth to a baby boy last evening.

The shocking incident has been reported from Chitrakonda area of the district. After the girl, who is a hostel resident, returned from her board examination and was admitted to the Chitrakonda Sub-Divisional Hospital where she delivered the baby boy.
Alarmingly, she had been attending classes and sitting for exams for months without school authorities noticing her pregnancy. This has raised serious concerns about student safety and the well-being of girls in the educational institution.
The parents of the girl have blamed the school authorities for negligence, while the teachers have pointed fingers at the hostel warden.
The Chitrakonda police have launched an investigation, with the District Welfare Officer (DWO) intervening into the matter.
