Rayagada, July 5: Tehsildar Chandrapur in Odisha’s Rayagada district was detained by Vigilance, following a hefty amount was recovered from his possession on Friday.
The unaccounted cash was seized and a case under different Sections of corruption was registered against the Tehsildar identified as Bichitrananda Nayak.
A press release by the Odisha Vigilance read, on receipt of reliable inputs that Bichitrananda Nayak, Tehsildar Chandrapur, District- Rayagada had demanded and collected huge bribe amount, and was proceeding towards Rayagada from Chandrapur with ill-gotten cash, a team of Odisha Vigilance intercepted him at Dangasarada on State Highway between Chandrapur and Muniguda.
On seeing the Vigilance team, Nayak, threw the bag containing the cash amounting to Rs 1,15,000 which was promptly recovered by the Vigilance team in presence of witnesses. However, the Tehsildar drove the vehicle in high speed, injuring a member of the Vigilance team, and managed to escape from the spot. The Vigilance team later traced the offender and detained him.
Searches are being carried out at the office and official residence of Nayak, at Chandrapur and at other locations.
He is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the recovered cash, the Vigilance sleuths informed.
