As per the data released by CBDT, in the top 22 individual tax payers list, film and cricket stars dominated all the way. (see the list below)

A glance at the top 22 list shows, of the top 22, 16 belong to film fraternity and the other six are cricket players. Also, in top 22, Bollywood stars count stood at 11, and of the rest 2 are actor Pankaj Tripathy and comedian Kapil Sharma.
But the 2024 list also has big celebrities missing. The prominent name missing from the 2024 list is of Khiladi Kumar.
AKSHAY KUMAR
In 2022, Akshay Kumar was the highest taxpayer in India. According to the Income Tax department data, the Sooryvanshi star paid an income tax of Rs.29.5 crore, the highest among individuals in India last year. In 2022, the superstar had an estimated annual income of Rs.486 crore, earned from different sources, such as movies, production houses, sports teams and endorsements.
But with his movies taking a beat at the box office in 2023 and 2024, where the actor’s, who was paid fees in proportion to the BO earnings, films incurred big losses, the superstar was virtually out of the top taxpayer list in India.
Akshay Kumar was top tax payers in India for five consecutive years – 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
2024 TOP TAXPAYER: SRK IS G.O.A.T!
With two over 1000cr hits – Jawan and Pathan – in year 2023, the Bollywood Badshah emerged as the top tax payer in the country. The Star paid Rs 92 cr as tax.
As per Harun Rich Analysis Report, SRK net wealth in 2024 stood at Rs 7,300 cr. The analysis shows that SRK main source of income has been Red Chillies Entertainment, which has so far produced 31 films/TV serials.
In 2023, it has produced films – Jawan and Dunki. In 2024, RCE has produced Bhakashak – a Netflix series.
Besides, Red Chillies Entertainment has sports subsidiary and is the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders.
HRITHIK ROSHAN: As per the Harun List, Hrithik Roshan, despite two bad years figured in the top-taxpayer list. His source of income is from the fitness brand company HRX, he co owns. The actor’s net wealth in 2024 is Rs 2000cr.
BIG B AMITABH BACHCHAN: The star of Millennium and Greatest of All the stars in Indian cinema, has no major films in year 2023-24 to emerge as the source of the income, though the Millennium star host the KBC show on Television.
As per Harun Rich list 2024, AB’s net wealth in 2024stood at Rs 1600cr, and the source of his income is INVESTMENTS (means purchasing equities/bonds of big corporate houses).
THALAPATHY VIJAY: The Tamil Superstar doesn’t figure in Harun’s Rich list 2024. But his net worth in 2024 is reported to be worth Rs 474 cr. His source of income – Films and endorsements.
SACHIN TENDULKAR, MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI, SOURAV GANGULY
While Master Blaster Sachin's income comes from cricketing profession and financial investements, MS Dhoni's source of income has been from IPL and endorsements. Former BCCI head and captain Sourav Ganguly's income comes from cricket administration and endorsements.
Despite among the new crop of cricketer, Rishabh Pant figured in the top 22 tax payer list. His basic income source has been IPL.
