New Delhi, April 19: Government Appoints Vice-Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi as Next Chief of Naval Staff. Vice-Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi has been appointed as the next Chief of the Naval Staff by the government. He is set to assume office on April 30, succeeding the current chief, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, upon his superannuation.
Born on May 15, 1964, Vice-Admiral Tripathi joined the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. Presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Indian Navy (VCNS), he specializes in Communication and Electronic Warfare. With nearly 39 years of distinguished service, Vice-Admiral Tripathi has held various significant positions. Before his tenure as VCNS, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Throughout his career, Vice-Admiral Tripathi has commanded INS 'Vinash', 'Kirch', and 'Trishul', among other notable appointments. He has also served in key operational and staff roles, including Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and Director of Naval Operations. As Rear Admiral, he led the Eastern Fleet and later served as the Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, along with holding the position of Chief of Personnel in NHQs.
An alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and NDA Khadakwasla, Vice-Admiral Tripathi has undergone training at prestigious institutions such as DSSC Wellington, Naval War College Goa, and Naval War College USA. His exemplary service has earned him accolades including the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) and Nau Sena Medal (NM).
