New Delhi, July 4: The victorious Indian team, who clinched the Men's T20 World Cup on June 29, landed at IGI Airport in New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday.
Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian side secured their second T20 World Cup title at the Kensington Oval on Saturday by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final, winning by seven runs. However, their return travel plans were disrupted by Hurricane Beryl, leaving them stranded for three days.
In response, the BCCI arranged a special chartered Air India flight named 'AIC24WC' (Air India Champions 24 World Cup). The Boeing 777 flight departed from Newark, New Jersey, and arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown in the early hours of Wednesday.
The special flight, which included the Indian team, support staff, players' families, BCCI officials, and 22 traveling media persons, took off from Bridgetown at 4:50 a.m. local time.
Upon landing in New Delhi, the T20 World Cup-winning contingent headed to the ITC Maurya hotel. They then attended a felicitation breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The team is scheduled to fly to Mumbai at 2 p.m., with an expected arrival at 4 p.m. In Mumbai, they will board an open bus from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NPCA) and participate in a victory parade from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The parade will travel through Marine Drive and conclude at Wankhede Stadium, giving fans the opportunity to see their favourite players who brought home a major trophy after 11 years. From 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be a small function at Wankhede Stadium to felicitate the victorious team, following which the players will head to their hotel.
