Bhubaneswar: Post Cyclone Fengal, the winter has been on a break from Odisha. The maximum and minimum temperature since last week has shown a rise-in tendency.
As per the IMD report, in coastal areas, the maximum temperature has been remaining nearly 2 deg C above normal, and the minimum temperature is remaining as high as 5 deg C above normal. As a consequence, the nip in the air is no more felt in the coastal region.
Similarly, in the western Odisha, the maximum temperature has gone north since December 3 and has been remaining 2-3 deg C above normal, though the minimum temperature that had seen a spike by nearly 4 deg C post Cyclone Fengal, has been slowly returning to the normal temperature of around 14 deg C. The chill is missing now.
WHY MERCURY WILL RISE ?
The weather model observation has been that a cyclonic circulation is now lying over Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. Model forecast suggests the western disturbance tracking east will be moving over to north India (Delhi –UP) in next 24 hrs.
The prediction shows weakening of strong northwesterly winds blowing at a lower level over India, including Odisha, due to the cyclonic circulation over Pakistan-Rajasthan. It shows, in the next 24 hrs onwards, the flow of northwest wind at lower level over India will breakdown, leading to a rise in day and night temperature till December 12.
But the strong subtropical westerly jet, which are behind the current western disturbance, over Rajasthan now will weaken over northwest and north India from Dec 11, reveals the NCUM model forecast. The result is no new western disturbance likely till Dec 15.
MERCURY TRAVEL IN ODISHA
As per the model observations, the maximum and minimum temperature in the State will post a rise from Dec 9. The minimum temperature is predicted to remain at around 22 deg C over the regions of coastal, south western and central districts in the State.
Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar will have minimum temperature in the range of 16 deg C vis-a-vis the normal temperature of 13.6 deg C.
The air will see a nip in the districts of north Odisha on Dec 13 and 14, when minimum temperature will drop to around 12 deg C.
The rest of the districts will not record any cold wave till December 17, suggest the model forecast of NCMRWF and IMD.
During the whole of the week, the maximum temperature will hover around 29-32 deg C in the whole of the State .
