Wipro, India's fourth-largest IT services company is ushering in a new era of work-life balance with the implementation of a hybrid work model. Starting soon, employees will be required to work from office three days a week, while retaining the flexibility to work remotely for specific periods throughout the year.

This decision was announced by Wipro's Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil. He outlined four key reasons for this shift towards a hybrid model:

  • Collaboration: In-person interactions are crucial for fostering teamwork, brainstorming ideas, and building strong relationships among colleagues.
  • Flexibility: The hybrid model allows employees to better manage their personal and professional lives, providing a sense of autonomy and work-life balance.
  • Sensitivity and Inclusion: Wipro recognises that some employees may have specific needs or circumstances that require greater flexibility, and the hybrid model aims to accommodate those needs.
  • Trust: Through hybrid model, Wipro demonstrates trust in its employees to manage their time effectively and deliver results, regardless of their location.

This move of Wipro aligns with a broader trend in the IT sector, as companies adapt to the evolving needs of both employees and clients. Industry giants like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have already mandated a full-time return to office, while Infosys has implemented a policy requiring employees to work from the office 10 days a month. Similarly, Cognizant and HCLTech have also introduced their versions of work-from-office policies.

Wipro believes this hybrid approach will enhance communication, enable faster problem-solving, and strengthen bonds between team members. By bringing employees together, the company aims to foster a more collaborative work environment.

However, the transition to a hybrid model may also present challenges. Maintaining a cohesive company culture and ensuring equitable opportunities for both in-office and remote employees will require careful planning and execution. It will be interesting to see how this hybrid model evolves and shapes the future of work at Wipro
