Balasore, Oct 20: A woman became critical at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday as she allegedly set herself on fire over a family feud.
The woman’s husband was also admitted to the hospital who was trying to rescue her from death.
The incident took place at Adia village under Jadida panchayat limits of the Soro block.
The victims are Sasikant Maharana and his wife Bhanumati Maharana.
According to sources, Sasikant and Bhanumati were almost regularly at loggerheads over family issues. On Sunday morning, such a dispute came up over some reason which turned violent later. Following this, an irate Bhanumati poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire while Sasikant frantically tried to douse the fire and rescue her.
Bhanumati was rescued by the locals and rushed to the Soro hospital for resuscitation.
On being informed the Soro police initiated an investigation into the matter.
