Bhubaneswar, April 16: Alongside the Ayushman Bharat Yojna, the Odisha government is all set to introduce 109 free Hearse service soon.
The blueprint for launching 109 services which was prepared in February 2025, is going to be chalked out soon.
According to the Odisha Health Department, a crucial meeting regarding rolling out free hearse vans across the state was held on Wednesday.
Here, the health authorities resolved to set up a centrally dispatch system for the 109 hearse service alike the 108 Ambulance services. Apart from it, a dedicated call centre will be developed to provide free hearse service for all, on call.
With dialing the toll free service number, one can avail the hearse service within 30 minutes of registration and carry his/ her kin’s body either to his residence or favorable crematorium.
Worth mentioning, the Mahaprayan Yojna executed by the Red Cross Society, is yet to address the concern of people in transporting the bodies to the essential destinations everywhere in the state. However, the dedicated hearse vans, proposed by the Odisha Health Department will better address the woes of people at their needs, said a key health official.
The government is working out on the guidelines, SoPs and other formalities in this connection, he added.
