Raipur, Oct 4: In one of the significant anti-naxalites operation in Chhattisgarh at least fourteen naxalites were gunned down in an encounter with security personnel in the Bastar region on Friday.
According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, the gunfight broke out at around 1 pm in the Bastar forest between Thulthuli and Nendur villages in Abhujmaad on the Narayanpur-Dantewada inter-district border. Meanwhile, the Maoists opened fire to which the security forces responded violently.
Personnel belonging to District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation.
Bodies of 14 Naxalites along with a cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and one SLR (self-loading rifle), were recovered from the encounter spot so far, the official said.
Intermittent exchange of fire is underway in the area for which more casualties are anticipated, the IG said.
