59 cyclone shelters are under construction in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, July 29: At least 59 cyclone shelters are under construction, said Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik on Thursday. Responding to a written question of MLA Chakramani Kanhara, Mallik said that as many as 880 cyclone shelters are functioning in Odisha. Out of it, 815 shelters have been set up by the disaster management department while the rest 65 centres are constructed by the Indian Red Cross Society. Apart from it, 55 new integrated shelters meant for cyclone and floods are under construction out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund while another four centres are being constructed out of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. Mallik also said that the department has set up two Doppler radars, one at Paradip and the other at Gopalpur. Similarly, two Doppler radars are going to be established at Sambalpur and Balasore soon.
