Bhubaneswar, March 26: Handicrafts and handlooms are the soul of Odisha and it is our moral responsibility and duty to take forward the glorious tradition, said Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bala Samanta today.
Gracing the closing ceremony of the 7th Kalabhoomi Utsav, the Minister said, “We are committed to promote and development of our rich tradition of handicrafts & handlooms in every soul.”
The five-day-long Kalabhoomi Utsav started on March 22.
Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary addressed regarding various initiatives taken by the department for the welfare of artisans and weavers.
Prem Chandra Choudhary, Director, Textiles and Handlooms said that Kalabhoomi is the symbol of rich handicrafts and handlooms of the state.
The Utsav included a workshop on stone carving “Sthapatya: Etching Livelihood on Stone”, painting competition, summer camp, two-day workshop on packaging, labeling and branding with Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata.
On the occasion, the Minister distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.
