Bengaluru, Jan 04: A Bengaluru city civil court granted bail to Nikita Singhania on Saturday. She is the wife of Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old deputy general manager at a private firm, who tragically died by suicide in December 2024.
Atul's death occurred in his Bengaluru apartment, where he left behind a 24-page suicide note accusing his wife and her relatives of harassment. The note also included a claim that a judge had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to "settle" a case.
Following Atul's death, his wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, and brother-in-law Anurag Singhania were arrested on December 15, 2024. They were subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Nikita was arrested in Gurugram, Haryana, while Nisha and Anurag were apprehended near Hotel Rameshwaram in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
In response to the court's decision to grant bail, Public Prosecutor Ponnanna expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the prosecution would challenge the ruling. He noted that the accused had previously sought bail from the Sessions Court, which was now granted by the civil court. Ponnanna added that they would carefully review the order to understand the grounds for bail and any imposed conditions.
He further emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and that granting bail before its completion was concerning. The prosecutor expressed that the prosecution team was not satisfied with the decision and would pursue further legal action to contest the bail order.
