Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Ahead of the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, which will take place from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneswar, security measures in the city have been significantly strengthened. A dedicated tactical unit of the Indian Special Forces has arrived to ensure the safety of delegates and attendees during the high-profile event.
The special tactical unit arrived at the DG camp office in Bhubaneswar on Friday evening, where the Commissionerate Police held a meeting to review security protocols. The combat unit, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, advanced gear, and wireless communication systems, is prepared to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Sources indicate that the tactical unit will be deployed at key city junctions and will maintain a vigilant watch from strategic vantage points across Bhubaneswar, ensuring tight security for the event.
The heightened security follows a recent threat from Khalistani terrorist Pannun, who referred to Bhubaneswar as a “terror city” and warned of potential disruptions from his supporters. Pannun urged people to avoid the area between Bhubaneswar airport and Janata Maidan, where major events are expected to take place.
This is not the first time such threats have emerged. Pannun had previously issued similar warnings during the DGP-IGP conference held in Bhubaneswar last December, which was attended by high-profile figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
To counter these threats and maintain a peaceful atmosphere, the Commissionerate Police, in collaboration with the Odisha government, has made elaborate security arrangements. The authorities are committed to ensuring that Odisha’s first Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is marked by a safe and memorable display of the state’s rich heritage and culture.
