Taking to her X handle, the Deputy CM made this announcement stating that “The abducted child son returned to the arms of his blind mother. Now the child will get help under Mission Vaasalya. The Women and Child Development Department will take immediate steps.”
The Mission Vatsalya scheme, implemented with a 60:40 fund-sharing ratio between the Centre and the state, offers monthly financial assistance of ₹4,000 to eligible children up to 18 years of age. The scheme supports children whose mothers are widowed, divorced, or abandoned by their families, as well as orphans residing with extended family members.
Wirth mentioning, after an intense 50-hour search, police on Tuesday successfully rescued the kidnapped toddler and arrested two individuals, including a woman, in connection with the abduction.
The abduction took place near Ram Mandir on Janpath Road, in front of the Kharavela Nagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar. Jayanti, a homeless woman who has been living near the temple for over five years, had been sleeping with her 1.5-year-old son on the temple premises when the incident occurred. According to her complaint filed on Sunday, an unidentified man approached her and offered her juice. While she was resting, the man seized the opportunity to abduct her child and fled the scene. She awoke to find her son missing and immediately raised an alarm. Locals and social workers quickly responded and escorted her to the police station to report the crime.
