The north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal districts seem to be in the eye of the storm, as the severe cyclonic storm Cyclone Dana will be making landfall close to Bhitarkanika National Park on Oct 25 between 5:30 am and 11 am (as per the latest track forecast by IMD today).
Since the national weather forecaster Indian Meteorological Department has issued cyclone alert to all the districts along the coastline from Puri in Odisha to Sagar Islands in West Bengal, the city wise rain time and wind speed are given below for the denizens to stay safe from the fury of Cyclone Dana.
In order to stay safe, here are the details on rain time and wind speed across the various coastal cities in Odisha and West Bengal.
Even as Goplapur is out of the IMD’s Cyclone hit zone, the IMD model predicts rainfall in the range of 4cm in the morning hours on October 24, when Cyclone Dana will be marching menacingly towards the north Odisha coast.
PURI: The spiritual capital of Odisha and one of the Char Dhams (4 pivotal spiritual centres) is the abode of Lord Jagannath. Take a look at the cyclone impact on Puri city and the district.
- The coastal village of Puri district may witness 40kmph wind from around 2:00 noon on October 23.
- Heavy rain in the city and the district during the night hours (after 10pm) on October 23.
- Rain to continue and cover the whole of the district as the night lingers on.
- Heavy rain around midnight on Oct 23.
- In the morning hours on October 24, the pilgrim city of Puri and the district as a whole will record more than 4cm rainfall in the morning hours. No let up in rain.

JAGATSINGHPUR: The coastal town of Odisha has one of the busiest port towns in the country – Paradip. This is the district that had borne the brunt of the disastrous super cyclone in 1999 on October 29. Though Cyclone Dana is no super cyclone, take a look at how the severe cyclone is impacting the cyclone struck district.
- Coastal villages in the district may witness 50kmph gusting wind in the night hours from 9 pm onwards on Oct 23.
- Light rain after noon hours at some coastal places in the district.
- Rain intensity to increase as the evening falls in.
- Whole of the district will record heavy rain during the night hours on Oct 23.
- Heavy rain from early morning hours on Oct 24. 4cm rain likely on the morning hours on Oct 24.

- Heavy rain around Bhitarkanika National Park from the evening hours on the evening hours on Oct 23.
- Moderate rainfall will grip the whole of the district as the sun sets in.
- Quantitative rainfall will increase as the night sets in.
- Oct 24 will witness very heavy rainfall in the district. The rain intensity will keep rising till the landfall.
- By the morning hours on Oct 24, gusting wind speed will cross the 70kmph barrier.
