Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: A youth died under mysterious circumstances at a rehabilitation center in the Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar where he was undergoing de-addiction treatment on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Prashant Nayak of Nayagarh district in Odisha. While the rehab center claimed that he died due to health-related ailment, his family members have alleged that he had been murdered.
As per reports, Prashant, who was undergoing treatment at the rehab center for the last six months, died while undergoing treatment.
Later today, the rehab authorities contacted Prashant's family and informed them that he was being taken to Unit-6 hospital as he had fallen unconscious. However, upon arriving at the hospital, the family was told that Prashant had passed away on the way there.

Prashant's family members have alleged that he has been thrashed to death by the rehab authorities for non-payment of dues.
His mother claimed the family had already paid Rs 2 lakh to the rehab center, but the authorities demanded an additional Rs 7,000. Unable to afford the extra charges, she requested that her son be discharged. But her request was denied, and they insisted on more money.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
