Cuttack, Oct 23: In response to reports of panic buying and illegal hoarding, officials from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department have conducted raids at storage facilities in Chhatra Bazaar. The department is urging the public to avoid panic purchasing, which could exacerbate rising prices, particularly for potatoes.
As concerns grow over the impending Cyclone Dana, many consumers are stockpiling essential items, leading to significant price hikes in local markets across Odisha. Currently, potatoes are selling for Rs 50 per kilogram, while onions have reached Rs 70. In Bhubaneswar, tomatoes are priced between Rs 80 and Rs 100. Other vegetables, including beans, brinjal, ladyfinger, and cauliflower, have also seen price increases of Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kilogram.
During a cyclone preparedness meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed officials to take action against the black marketing of essential goods.
