Elderly man, BLO pass away during fourth phase election in Odisha

Balasore/Jajpur, June 1: Tragedy struck at booth no. 159 in Iswarpur, Nilagiri, as an elderly man Surendra Mohanty (67) collapsed and passed away while standing in line to cast his vote.
Accompanied by his wife, Mohanty had visited the polling station to participate in the fourth and final phase of the twin polls. Witnesses reported that he suddenly collapsed inside the booth and was swiftly taken to a nearby Primary Health Centre (PHC), where he was declared dead.
Initial reports suggest the cause of death may have been sunstroke.
In an another incident, a Booth Level Officer (BLO), Manoranjan Sahoo, also met an untimely demise while on duty at booth No. 157 in Oleichandanpur, Jajpur.
Sahoo, a teacher at Harsinghpur Primary School, complained of sudden cardiac pain and lost consciousness. Despite immediate efforts to save him, he was declared dead upon arrival at the Binjharpur Community Health Centre (CHC).
According to Manoj Kumar Mahalik, a fellow BLO stationed at booth No. 156, Sahoo had complained of nausea, vomiting, and mild chest pain earlier in the day.
