Baripada, Dec 22: A female elephant carcass was recovered near Golamundakata village under the Bangriposi forest range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj District on Sunday.
Though the reason behind the death of the pachyderm is yet uncertain, toxic food or electrocution are anticipated as the hidden causes behind its immature death.
According to reports, the locals informed the range officials after they spotted a young elephant approximately of 7-8 year in an unconscious situation, lying on the ground in the village forest.
On being informed, officers from the forest department, including the Ranger and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), swiftly reached the scene to assess the situation.
Taking stock of the matter, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) , Baripada said that veterinarians are conducting examination and postmortem of the jumbo, the report would reveal cause of the death.
