Bhubaneswar, December 22: The Odisha government has instructed district Collectors to conduct a thorough assessment of crop damage caused by recent unseasonal rainfall, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.
Addressing the media, Minister Pujari stated, “The Collectors have been directed to assess crop losses in their respective districts. However, due to continuous rainfall until yesterday, the process faced delays. Officials from unaffected areas, including Tehsildars, Revenue Inspectors, and Amins, have been deployed to assist with assessments in impacted regions.”
He assured farmers that the government would provide adequate compensation and facilitate the sale of unaffected crops. Minister Pujari also emphasized his willingness to personally visit the affected areas if required.
The state government has urged farmers enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif 2024 to report crop losses to claim insurance compensation. The unseasonal rains have reportedly damaged harvested crops across several districts, including Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Mayurbhanj, among others.
The state government highlighted that approximately 15 lakh farmers from affected districts are enrolled under PMFBY for Kharif 2024. The compensation will be disbursed based on the extent of loss, ensuring full coverage of the insured amount.
