Kuwait City [Kuwait], December 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day official visit to Kuwait on Sunday, marking a significant step in strengthening India-Kuwait relations.
Invited by Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, this visit holds historic importance as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years. The discussions between PM Modi and Kuwait's leadership focused on bolstering cooperation in key sectors, including pharmaceuticals, IT, FinTech, infrastructure, and security.
Elevating to a Strategic Partnership
During the visit, PM Modi met with the Emir and Prime Minister of Kuwait, Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, reaffirming their commitment to elevate bilateral ties to a "Strategic Partnership." Both leaders emphasized the deep-rooted historical connections and friendly relations between the two nations.
At the Bayan Palace, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour. Reflecting on the engagements, the Prime Minister posted on X:
"Excellent meeting with His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. We discussed cooperation in key sectors... I am optimistic that our friendship will flourish even more in the times to come."
Strengthening India-GCC Relations
The roadmap for deepening the India-Kuwait strategic partnership also addressed strengthening ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) under Kuwait’s presidency. PM Modi expressed gratitude to the Emir for ensuring the welfare of over one million Indian nationals residing in Kuwait.
The Emir, in turn, appreciated the Indian community's vibrant contributions to Kuwait’s development.
The visit marks a milestone in fostering stronger ties between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and mutual prosperity.
