Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: Odisha Governor Raghubar Das on Monday visited the leprosy colony in ward no - 17 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Das reached the colony at around 11 am and women of the slum welcomed him with flower and sandal tilak in a traditional manner.
No VIP arrangements were made for the first citizen of Odisha as he wanted to meet the slum dwellers as a common man walking along the colony. He spent time with children and distributed blanket to over 50 women.
The governor also enquired about implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) programme and other welfare schemes in the slum.
Earlier in the morning, he visited Lingaraj Temple to offer prayers and interacted with priests.
