New Delhi, October 9: The Congress party has filed complaints with the Election Commission (EC) over allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering during the Haryana elections. On Wednesday, the party called on the EC to match Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) copies with the electronic vote tally from EVMs, following accusations of irregularities.
The Congress has submitted 20 complaints, including seven written ones, claiming EVM tampering. They highlighted that in areas where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won, machines were charged at 99%, whereas, in regions where the Congress won, EVMs were operating at 60-70%. The Congress deemed the results as "unexpected, surprising, and counterintuitive," refusing to accept the election outcome.
The Congress delegation, including senior leaders such as KC Venugopal, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Ashok Gehlot, and Uday Bhan, met with the EC to express concerns over the counting process in certain constituencies.
The EC acknowledged the Congress's grievances and referenced statements by party leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, and Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the disputed results. The party has announced plans to further analyze the situation and submit detailed complaints to the EC.
