Bhubaneswar, March 22: The 7th edition of Kalabhoomi Utsav began at the Odisha Crafts Museum today. The Utsav will continue till March 26.
The 5-day long festival was inaugurated by Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Secretary. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the department is committed to carry forward the rich tradition of handloom and handicrafts of Odisha.
Padmashree Prabhakar Maharana, Pranati Chhotray, Director, Handicrafts and MD, Boyanika were present at the event.
After the inaugural function, a stone carving workshop “Sthapatya: Etching Livelihood on Stone” was organized. The panel discussion on carving craft was attended by national awardees Uday Mohanty, Padma Charan Ojha, Indramani Maharana, Maheshwar Ojha, Rajendra Mishra, Binay Bhushan Jena, Golak Patra and Komal Kant Sahu from the Federation of Indian Export Organisation. The discussion was moderated by Devi Prasanna Nanda.
On 23rd March a drawing competition will be organized for students of various schools and colleges. A summer camp will also be organized for students on March 24. The entry fee will be exempted to all on March 23 and 24. A workshop will be organized with the Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata on March 25 and 26. Every evening there will be Cultural programs showcasing the rich art & tradition of the state. The valedictory ceremony will be graced by Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta.
