Lucknow, March 3: Mayawati, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), announced the expulsion of her nephew Akash Anand on Monday, citing his response to his removal from party duties as "selfish and arrogant."
In a statement shared on X, Mayawati emphasized that the decision was made to uphold the dignity of the movement inspired by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and in line with the discipline established by Kanshiram. "Akash Anand, like his father-in-law, is expelled from the party in the interest of the party and the movement," Mayawati said.
Mayawati, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, criticized Anand for his remarks following his removal from key positions in the BSP, describing them as "not a sign of political maturity." She accused him of being influenced by his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, who had also been expelled from the party.
"The lengthy response given by Akash is not one of remorse or political maturity; it is mainly selfish and arrogant, under the influence of his father-in-law—something I have consistently advised people in the party to avoid," Mayawati added.
The BSP leader expressed that Akash Anand should have accepted his removal from the party positions "maturely."
In the All-India BSP meeting held the previous day, Anand was relieved of all responsibilities, including his role as National Coordinator. This action was taken due to his continued association with his father-in-law, who was also expelled from the party. Mayawati noted that Anand should have reflected on the situation and shown maturity instead of responding in the way he did.
