Bhubaneswar, Mar 18: In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Odisha government on Tuesday decided that children must be at least six years old to get admission into Class 1.
The decision was taken after extensive discussions with educationists and experts and is meant to support a well-structured and balanced learning experience for young students, keeping in line with global education standards.
It is worth mentioning that the NEP 2020 will be implemented in Odisha from the academic session 2025-26.
Earlier, children were required to complete six years of age by March 31 to be eligible for admission in the academic year. However, the School and Mass Education Department today informed that the deadline has been extended to September 1.
This extension will ensure that the students receive adequate early education before stepping into primary school.
The education department has stressed that this decision follows national policies and will be applied across all schools in the state. Schools and parents are encouraged to take note of the updated admission criteria and prepare accordingly for the upcoming academic year.
