Bhubaneswar, October 26: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi siad that normalcy is gradually returning in the cyclone-ravaged districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara, though relief and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing.

Following an assessment of the post-cyclone restoration work, CM Majhi informed that over 8 lakh people were evacuated to cyclone shelters, with only about 1.1 lakh remaining in shelters as they await improved conditions.

He emphasized that flood-affected residents can stay until complete normalization is achieved. The cyclone impacted around 22.84 lakh households, with power restored to over 92% by 7:30 pm today.

The Chief Minister noted that Kendrapara has nearly returned to normalcy, while Bhadrak still faces water-logging issues, with restoration at 77%.

In Balasore, major roadblocks have been cleared, and 81% of the population has regained electricity access.

Rains in Shimilipal swelled the Budhabalang river, but levels are now stabilizing.

Meanwhile, nearly 10,500 people were rescued from flooded villages in the Remuna and Balasore Sadar blocks.

Electricity supply has been fully restored in Mayurbhanj, with additional power boats deployed to support operations in Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

Water levels at the Gobindpur Setu are now below the danger mark, and 28 snakebite cases were treated amidst the post-cyclone efforts.

Initial estimates indicate a crop loss of 2 lakh acres, with immediate aid planned for affected farmers following the release of floodwaters.
