Bhubaneswar: Rain, Rain everywhere! The year 2024 in its last leg will be bringing rain over the whole of the country.
While a well marked low over the southwest Bay of Bengal will be taking a north turn in the subsequent 24hrs, thereby, bringing untimely rain over Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh, besides the rainfall around Chennai region and south Andhra Pradesh, a western disturbance will rule the skyline over north India from around Christmas bringing rains to the whole of north and central India, including western Odisha.
HEAVY RAINS OVER ODISHA
The weather model prediction by IMD-GFS, NCMRWF and ECMWF shows the State’s coastal, south, central and north districts may record rainfall in the range of 2-4cm on Dec 20/21. The forecast also predicts rainfall in the range of 5mm in some western districts of the State.

STATE CAPITAL BHUBANESWAR
- Overcast skies on Dec 20, 21, 22
- The maximum temperature will drop to below 20deg C on Dec 21
- The day time temperature on Dec 20 will be around 20deg C.
- The night temperature in the State capital will hover at around 16-18 deg C
- The relative humidity in the air is predicted to stay in the range of 80-90%
- The weather parameters show chilly days taking seize of the State capital from Dec 20.
- Cloudy skies to stay on pre -Christmas days.
- Around 1mm rainfall possible on Dec 23, 24 in the city.
- Till Christmas, humidity in air will be hovering around 60-70%.
- Sunny skies to rule over the capital city from the Christmas day.
SILVER CITY CUTTACK
- Clouds to dominate the skyline of the silver city.
- Nearly 40mm rain of December 21.
- Day time temperature to plummet below 16 deg C
- Relative Humidity may be in the range of 80-90%.
- Clear skies from Dec 25 noon.
SILK CITY BERHAMPUR
- Berhampur region, including Gopalpur is predicted to see heavy rain in the range of 50-60mm on Dec 20/21
- Day time temperature to drop to around 20 deg C till Dec 22
- Relative humidity to rule till Dec 22.
- Some rainfall likely till Dec 24.
- And Day time temperature to stay around 20-24 deg C
- Nights will record a temperature of around 20 deg C.
WEATHER IN WESTERN ODISHA
- Under the influence of current low pressure system, the districts in the western region will witness a cloudy sky.
- Some places like Sambalpur, Kalahandi etc may record trace rainfall amount.
- However, by Dec 27/28, the region will see light rainfall from Dec 27 triggered by an eastward moving western disturbance.
- Places like Sundargarh, Steel city Rourkela may record 4-5mm rainfall.
- The western districts will record cloudy skies from Dec 27 onwards.
WEATHER IN CENTRAL ODISHA
- The current low pressure system will bring around 4 cm rainfall on Dec 20/21 in Angul- Dhenkanal region.
- An equal amount of rainfall is very likely over Kandhmal.
WEATHER IN SOUTH ODISHA
- The whole of south Odisha will witness around 1-5mm rainfall and cloudy skies up to Dec 24.
WHY COASTAL ODISHA WILL RECORD RAINFALL?
The model forecasts predict the low pressure taking north turn as it reaches close to South Andhra Pradesh coast by Dec 20. The system will move close to the Odisha coastline on Dec 21 bringing rainfall across the coastline of the State.
By Dec 22, the system will take northeast turn to venture into north-central Bay of Bengal and weaken.
