Bhubaneswar, January 22: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has on Wednesday approved 10 key proposals aimed at boosting the state’s infrastructure and development.
One of the major decisions was the approval for the establishment of Model Primary Schools in all 6,794 Gram Panchayats across the state. The government will allocate a total of Rs 12,000 crore for the project, with completion expected by 2028.
In another move, the Cabinet endorsed a new scheme to improve the state's cold storage infrastructure in the state. The "Financial Assistance to Cold Storages" scheme aims to establish at least one cold storage facility in each of Odisha’s 58 sub-divisions.
Additionally, the Cabinet has also approved a customized incentive package for RIR Power Electronics Limited, which plans to establish India’s first Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar. The Rs 618.60 crore project, which will be developed in two phases, is expected to generate 750 jobs. The facility will produce SiC-based devices for sectors like electric vehicles, renewable energy, railways, and defense. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2024 at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Park in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to the “Bikashita Gaon Bikashita Odisha” (BGBO) scheme, focusing on rural development with a total outlay of Rs 5,000 crore. For the 2024-25 financial year, Rs 1,000 crore has been sanctioned under the scheme to support rural infrastructure and economic growth.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a proposal to amend the Odisha Universities Act, 1989, to further streamline the functioning of universities in the state.
