Puri, Nov 1: The death toll in Puri firecracker explosion incident reached two on Friday with death of another injured while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
One person had died in the incident last night. Three individuals, including a woman, had sustained severe burn injuries in the firecracker explosion on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Rautsahi of Batagaon under the Puri Sadar Police Station while a group of people were engaged in making firecrackers.
The injured were initially treated at Puri District Headquarters Hospital before being transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to the absence of a burn unit at the district facility.
Two victims had reportedly suffered burns covering 80% of their bodies.
An investigation is on into the firecracker explosion incident and stringent action will be taken against those were involved in illegal cracker manufacturing, said Puri SP Vinit Agarwal.
