Bhubaneswar, February 6: The Odisha Health Department will roll out a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign from February 10 in the state.
The drive will run from February 10 to 19 across six endemic districts—Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Cuttack, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh—to combat Lymphatic Filariasis (LF).
Ahead of the campaign, a media sensitization workshop was held in Bhubaneswar to raise awareness about LF and the importance of drug administration. Trained health workers will ensure eligible individuals in these districts receive anti-filarial medication. Exemptions include children under two, pregnant women, and critically ill individuals.
Health officials emphasized the need for community and media support to ensure widespread participation and break the transmission cycle of LF.
Officials highlighted that LF is a leading cause of long-term disability and assured the safety of the anti-filarial drugs, with Rapid Response Teams available to address any adverse reactions.
