Puri, Apr 11: Over 10 shops were gutted and property worth lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes after a massive fire broke out in Krushnaprasad block of Odisha's Puri district late last night.
As per reports, the blaze, which occurred near Jahnikuda Ghat in Chilika coastal area under Krushnaprasad block, caused extensive damage as each shop was well-stocked owing to the upcoming Pana Jatra festival.
Upon getting the information, fire service personnel from Maluda arrived at the spot and doused the flames.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident which caused significant financial losses to the local shopkeepers.
Though the exact reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained, prima facie suggests that the fire might have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
