The vibrant orange buses, adorned with illustrations depicting Odisha's rich art and culture along with iconic landmarks such as the Konark Sun Temple wheel and Dhauli Stupa, were last spotted at Haladiapadar Bus Stand in Ganjam District. The trial run has already been conducted.
According to sources, these state-of-the-art buses will play a pivotal role during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, ferrying guests between venues. Plans are also underway to introduce four more such electric double-decker buses, expanding their operation to Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Berhampur.
Each bus features 66 seats and offers a travel range of approximately 250 kilometres on a full charge. The buses will be managed by the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Odisha government, signalling a push towards sustainable urban transport.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had previously inaugurated India’s first electric double-decker bus in Mumbai on 19th August 2022, setting the stage for innovative public transport solutions across the country.
Odisha’s adoption of these eco-friendly buses demonstrates its commitment to modernisation and sustainability while enhancing its transport infrastructure in preparation for the global event.
